Leonardo da Vinci and Mirror Writing


Italian artist/scientist/inventor Leonardo da Vinci created thousands of pages of notes and drawings. Da Vinci wrote many of his notes from right to left and in reverse. This is called mirror writing.

Mirror Writing
The writing can be read correctly when viewed in a mirror (see photo above).

Why Mirror Writing
It is unknown why he wrote this way.

There are engraved and painted prehistoric signs with square/rectangular shapes in the Lascaux cave in France.

The signs may have been created around 19,000 years ago

What Are the Signs Called
The “Coats of Arms”

Area of the Cave
The signs are located in the Nave in the Panel of the Great Black Cow

Meaning

The meaning of the signs is unknown
