Theory: The Trois Freres Cave Reindeer and Bison in the Milky Way
March 21, 2016/Lynn
Here’s my theory: In the Cave of Les Trois Freres in France there is a panel of engravings that includes figures that look like a reindeer and a bison-type image. There are images in the Milky Way that look like the figures in the cave. I think the cave figures are the Milky Way images.
(Update: Added Milky Way photo.)
The reindeer/bison-type figures are engraved images (in a panel with numerous engravings) in the Cave of Les Trois Freres in southwestern France (Ariege). The images date from about 13,000 BC.
The Milky Way Images
Where to look: The M6 Butterfly Cluster is located near the tail of the reindeer (noted with a blue dot on the Milky Way sketch).
There is a line of stars in the reindeer Milky Way image, and a line of dots in the reindeer cave image. (The reindeer Milky Way image and the cave figure both have front “feet” that are curved. There is a distinctive feature on the bison Milky Way image’s backside that is also on the bison cave figure.)
Markings Next to Cave Figures
There are also many markings next to the reindeer/bison cave figures that I think are images next to the reindeer/bison Milky Way figures.
(Update: Added sketches of the markings – see above. On the Milky Way sketch the blue dot is the M6 Butterfly Cluster and the pink dot is the M8 Lagoon Nebula. In the Milky Way the marking in front of the reindeer image is filled with a gold/orange color.)
There are many images in the cave panel with the reindeer/bison-type figures, including an image that looks like a Bison-Man playing a musical instrument (also called the Little Sorcerer or Petit Sorcier à l’Arc Musical). I think the Bison-Man is also a Milky Way image.
(Update: Added sketch. This image compares three cave figures with three Milky Way images. The blue dot is the M6 Butterfly Cluster.)

1) Perhaps there is a link between the way the Milky Way images are viewed and the reindeer/bison’s location in the cave.
2) In addition to other possible meanings, could the figures have represented a certain time of year when the Milky Way images were in a specific location?
I also posted a theory about the large Sorcerer of Les Trois Freres Cave and the Milky Way.
